Knapp Backpack & UAV Project

Sponsored by

Engineering Requirements:

  • Modular Design:

      - Adaptable on both backpack and UAV system with common Adapter
      - Slice electrical connections to optimize for modularity
      - Fastener-Plate design for common adapter

  • System Size:

      - Fits in carry-on size pelican case
      - Lidar footprint fits the electronics box footprint
      - Electronics box fits in between drone landing gear

  • Improve Data Quality:

      - Optimize Lidar placement (height extension, angle change)
      - Addition of 2 RGB camera
      - IMU & Lidar mounted to same plate
      - Camera mounted to same plate

  • Maintain/reduce weight
    - <= 5kg for backpack
    - < 3kg for UAV payload
    - Payload CG centered as possible

  • Misc Electrical Constraints
    - Electrical 18 pins
    - Lidar port connection direction constrained to facing back
    - Antenna strictly vertical
    - 1 in spacing between all electrical components for wire routing
    - Power on backpack must go through dovetail
